General
Q: What is Ummah Athletics Association (UAA)?
A: UAA is an Islamically faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to building strong bodies, confident minds, and honorable character through athletics, fitness, and community programs
Q: How can an organization promoting athleticism be Islamic?
A: 1. Intention (Niyyah):
The foundation is setting the intention that athletic programs are not just for physical health, but also to help youth strengthen their faith, discipline, and character.
The Prophet ﷺ said: إِنَّمَا الأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّاتِ
“Actions are but by intentions.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
2. Permissibility of Athletics in Islam:
Islam encourages physical strength. The Prophet ﷺ said:
المؤمن القوي خير وأحب إلى الله من المؤمن الضعيف
“The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer.” (Muslim)
This applies to strength of faith and body. Activities like archery, swimming, horseback riding, wrestling, and running are directly encouraged in narrations.
3. Holistic Development:
Athletics can be used to develop:
• Physical health (fulfilling the trust of the body Allah gave us)
• Discipline and perseverance (aligning with Islamic values of patience and endurance)
• Brotherhood/sisterhood (building bonds in a halal environment)
• Leadership and responsibility (developing youth into future leaders of the Ummah)
Q: How does faith-based athletics look in practice when implemented through your programs?
A: 1. Program Structure & Environment

-
Gender separation where age-appropriate.
-
Modest uniform guidelines (long shorts, loose shirts, etc.) that align with our values.Highlight reminders about akhlaq (manners/character) as part of teamwork.
2. Clear Identity & Messaging
-
Reinforce that UAA is rooted in Islamic values in all materials (flyers, website, registration forms, welcome packets).
-
Remind athletes that staying healthy is an act of worship when done with the right intention.
-
Scheduling activities around prayer times to emphasize salah.
3. Volunteers & Coaching
-
All coaches/volunteers commit to upholding UAA’s faith-centered conduct policy (language, dress, behavior).
-
Training provided on how to be positive role models both in athletics and in faith.
-
Coaches to use Islamic manners in communication.
-
Coaches and volunteers are not just trainers, but also mentors who reinforce Islamic values
4. Community Partnerships
-
Collaborate with masājid, imams, and Islamic schools for field space and referrals.

Q: When will programs begin?
A: UAA plans to launch its initial programs in Fall 2026, in shaa Allaah.

A: We combine athletics with character development, Islamic values, and community connection, ensuring a safe and supportive environment that minimizes unnecessary gender mixing.
